PhotoHunt Theme: Wooden

The theme this week is "wooden" and I have an uncle who creates beautiful things out of wood. He made me this bunny quite a few years ago. The bunny has interchangeable ears for every holiday, which my aunt sewed. There are also little items made out of wood that the bunny holds for each holiday. Clearly, my little bunny is getting ready for St. Patrick's Day! I found the table that the bunny is sitting on when I was about 15 years old. A neighbor was throwing it away and it was a mess. My grandfather fixed the table legs and put a bright new shine on it to surprise me! Oh, also my grandmother crocheted that green doily!

So, right now this little corner of my house is full of happy memories!

Super Bowl Food

I have been meaning to post this since the Super Bowl.
My parents were visiting for my birthday, which was January 28th, and stayed with us until the Monday after Super Bowl. I had the Cauliflower Olive Salad recipe on my refrigerator and my mother thought it sounded good.
~~~~~
Well, I had received this recipe from my sister quite a while ago and had never made it. My daughter and son-in-law were coming over to watch the Super Bowl with us, my husband was making Chili Con Carne so we decided that Cauliflower Olive Salad would be a good accompaniment. We were right - this is SO good. And since the recipe makes a lot I was lucky enough to eat it throughout the week. It just gets better while sitting in the dressing.
~~~~~
Actually, I think I'll make more today - it will be great with fish on Friday!

OK, here's the recipe, with thanks to my sister and brother-in-law for providing it:

Ingredients:

6 cups Cauliflower Flowerets, broken up

1 Cup Chopped Green Bell Peppers

1 Cup Stuffed Green Olives, sliced

1 Can Chopped Black Olives (4.5 ounce can), drained

1/2 Cup Chopped Sweet Red Pepper

1/2 Cup Chopped Red Onion, optional

Dressing:

3 Tablespoons Lemon Juice

3 Tablespoons Apple Cider Vinegar

1/2 Teaspoon Sugar

1/4 Teaspoon Pepper

1/2 Cup Vegetable Oil

  1. In a large bowl, combine the cauliflower, green pepper, olives, red pepper and onion, if desired.
  2. In a small bowl, whisk the lemon juice, vinegar, sugar and pepper; gradually whisk in the oil. Pour over vegetables and stir to coat.
  3. Cover and refrigerate for at least 4 hours. Serve with slotted spoon.

PhotoHunt Theme: Heavy

The theme this week is "heavy"
and, of course, my first thoughts went to my daughter's cat, Alice.
My grandkitty weighs about 20 pounds!
But isn't she adorable?!?!?!
And since the weekend is here, it's time go visit all the other cats...

Across The Universe Day

NASA has invited people around the world to play "Across the Universe" on their audio systems at the same time (February 4, 2008, at 00:00 GMT = 7:00 PM New York/EST) NASA beams its mp3 version into outer space. This is being done to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the song, the 45th anniversary of NASA's Deep Space Network, an international network of antennas that supports missions to explore the universe, and the 50th anniversary of NASA.
