PhotoHunt Theme: High

The theme this week is "high" and I went on my first (and only) helicopter ride on the 1st of July, 2006. I found myself high up in the air over St. Louis! I am pretty much afraid of flying in any big commercial plane so this really was a huge event for me to fly in a helicopter.
~~~~~
By myself.
~~~~~
I had gone down to the Fair St. Louis and they were taking peo
ple up for helicopter rides so I nervously bought my ticket and actually went for a helicopter ride. As luck would have it, I even got to sit right next to the pilot in the front left seat of the helicopter.
I couldn't wait to show my husband the pictures of what I had done!

~~~~~
Had I not taken pictures,
no one would have believed that I would have done this!
~~~~~
Of course, St. Louis is home to Anheuser Busch so we did fly over the Budweiser building!

Hearts are breaking...

With sadness,
we just found out from Astrid, Kashim & Othello
that Upsie is no longer with us.
Upsie was one of the first cats I knew from Weekend Cat Blogging
and I have enjoyed the pictures and the stories of Upsie
for the past two years.
Sundance also left us too soon
but now Upsie and Sundance are together again.

A Prayer for Animals

Hear our humble prayer, O God, for our friends the animals,
especially for animals who are suffering;
for animals that are overworked, underfed and cruelly treated;
for all wistful creatures in captivity that beat their wings against bars;
for any that are hunted or lost or deserted or frightened or hungry;
for all that must be put to death.
We entreat for them all Thy mercy and pity,
and for those who deal with them we ask a heart of compassion
and gentle hands and kindly words.
Make us, ourselves, to be true friends to animals,
and so to share the blessings of the merciful.

PhotoHunt Theme: Metal

The theme this week is "metal" and we are having a lot of flooding in the St. Louis area. Of course I know that water is not metal, however as we drove around the area I found that there is a lot of metal by the flooded areas.
The high school has metal chain-link f
ences around the ball fields.
The Porta-Potty is in a metal cage...
The goal posts in the flooded football field
are a bright yellow metal.
And then I found a metal barrier which wouldn't allow access to the park.
On the bridges there is also a lot of metal.
Hopefully there won't be a lot more water or we'll have a lot of metal underwater!

May your days be touched by
a bit of Irish luck,
brightened by a song
in your heart,
and warmed by the smiles of
the people you love!

PhotoHunt Theme: I Spy (take a photo of something hidden for us to find)

The theme this week is "I Spy" (take a photo of something hidden for us to find). This was a very interesting concept. I had no idea what I was going to post until we went to the St. Patrick's Day Parade downtown today. I love the architecture of the old buildings downtown.
~~~~~
So, along with the parade pictures, I took some pictures of the buildings
an
d found something not readily apparent at first glance. ~~~~~ ~~~~~
Oyster Festival!
We went to a Stout & Oyster Festival yesterday with our daughter and son-in-law. There were 25,000 oysters shipped in from both the east coast and the west coast, along with professional shuckers! They have the Festival at a local microbrewery every year. It's a lot of fun!
~~~~~
I will have more pictures later but I made up this picture after enjoying oysters on the half shell, fried oysters, oysters rockefeller and the best oyster shooters!

PhotoHunt Theme: Different

The theme this week is "different" and since it has been very cold here,
I thought some "different" weather would be nice.

This was taken in my driveway when the snow was only up to 5 inches
- some cities got up to 12 inches!
So I went with some friends to the Butterfly House. That was definitely different as it was about 90 degrees and very humid! But it was worth it to see all of those beautiful butterflies, which all look different too!~~~~~ ~~~~~ ~~~~~ ~~~~~ ~~~~~ ~~~~~ ~~~~~ ~~~~~

PhotoHunt Theme: Party

The theme this week is "party" and China Cat & Willow were all ready
for my dad's birthday last July.
~~~~~
To surprise Dad, China Cat & Willow got ready for his birthday party.
They were a little disappointed that he couldn't really come to their party.
To ease their disappointment, they both received Temptations
and everyone was happy!
