PhotoHunt: Framed

"FRAMED" is the theme this week.

 On Valentine's Day this year we drove out to see our grandson and give him some Valentine's Day presents. It had been snowing so on the way back home we drove through Castlewood Park to see the river. As luck would have it, we found a mama deer with her two babies. They were FRAMED by the tree branches.

I tried to get a close-up of them, 
FRAMED by the trees. The babies were so cute!

The Meramec River is also FRAMED by the trees on both sides.

 
At Christmastime, China Cat was FRAMED
in the front living room window.

Willow was FRAMED in the living room window
near the 4th of July/Independence Day Holiday.

Almost every day that my grandson is at my house we walk over to the park to see the ducks. He is only 16 months old but he can do a very good duck call! When it gets really hot out the ducks all go under the bridge. It was 92 degrees with high humidity and you can see the ducks FRAMED between the bridge and the reflection of the bridge in the water!

PhotoHunt: Six

"SIX" is the theme this week.

I went outside to see what I would take a picture of for the theme of "SIX" and my husband was mowing the lawn. I told him that I was trying to find SIX of something to take a picture of for today's PhotoHunt. He immediately said to take a picture of a six-pack of beer. I couldn't believe that I didn't even think of a six-pack!

Well, I looked in the garage refrigerator aka the Beer Box to see if there was a six-pack of my husband's favorite beer. His favorite beer is Two Hearted Ale from Bell's Brewery in Comstock, Michigan. There were only two in the Beer Box so I decided that I would pick SIX different beers for my photo.

The SIX beers are, from left to right:

2. Oak Aged Yeti Imperial Stout from Great Divide Brewing Co. in Denver, Colorado

PhotoHunt: Bubbles

"BUBBLES" is the theme this week.

I always think of champagne when I think about BUBBLES.
But this is a glass of beer that is full of BUBBLES...

PhotoHunt: Sparkle

"SPARKLE" is the theme this week.

While looking through my pictures for something with SPARKLE, I found some pictures of when we went Cosmic Bowling with some friends and their kids. Along with the black lights, there were lights that SPARKLED across the front of the alleys. Colored lights were also SPARKLING all across the floor. The kids did great bowling and the adults not so much!

There was a house down the street from us that had very SPARKLY Christmas lights up last December. In fact, I took this picture on January 13th, 2010 and we joked that they were putting off taking them down as there were so many of them all over their yard!

This Cat Sculpture was at the Mother's Day Art Fair 
that we went to a few years ago.
You can see it is full of SPARKLES!

PhotoHunt Theme: Spotted

"Spotted" is the theme this week.

One morning my cats were meowing at the sliding glass door which leads out to the screened-in porch. This isn't unusual - even when it's cold they generally go out and "patrol the perimeter" before coming back to the door to come in. December 30th was cold and it had snowed the night before. Both cats went out and didn't come right back to be let in the house. I called them and Willow came in but China Cat was behind the hot tub where I couldn't see her. Finally, I went out to get her to come in but that's when I saw what had fascinated her. A large hawk was about 15 feet out on the lawn eating something for breakfast! I ran to get my camera and went back out in the porch. I rarely can get pictures taken through a screen however I was able to get some pretty good pictures of Mr. Hawk! I took the pictures at 8:00 AM and I figured that Mr. Hawk wouldn't stay around for too long. I was really surprised to see him still sitting there at noon! I guessed that he ate so much for breakfast and he felt safe sitting in the fenced yard, that he fell asleep sitting there - kind of like when we eat to much turkey on Thanksgiving! We weren't sure what he ate but when my husband went out to look he found some feathers on the ground.

Anyway, I picked Mr. Hawk for the SPOTTED Theme because you can see that he has white SPOTS all over his chest! I googled Hawk images but I can't figure out what kind of hawk he is - or if he really is a he or a she!

PhotoHunt Theme: Bird(s)

"Bird(s)" is the theme this week.

When we went to Lake Tahoe with my parents in September 2008 my husband and I drove around the lake. On the far side of the lake we stopped at Gar Woods Grill & Pier for lunch. Since it was so beautiful out, we ate outside on the deck. A few tables away from us I saw a little bird land looking for crumbs on the table. At first I thought that it had it's right leg tucked up like a flamingo. But it turned out to only have a left leg. It stood on the table for about 5 minutes, just looking around and then it flew away. ~~~~~ ~~~~~

Photohunt Theme: Orange

"ORANGE" is the theme this week.

I love going to the zoo and my favorite area at the St. Louis Zoo is Big Cat Country. There are six Amur Tigers (one mother and her five tiger cubs) and it is so much fun to watch them play in their pond. Their ORANGE and black stripes are so striking!
China Cat likes to think that she is a Big Cat but at possibly six pounds she is really a small ORANGE tabby cat.
Last Halloween Willow enjoyed sitting in my front window Halloween tableau. Of course, ORANGE is a major featured color in any Halloween decorating!

Photohunt Theme: Rock(s)

"ROCK(S)" is the theme this week.

In September of 2008 my husband and I went to meet my parents at Lake Tahoe. We took a tour of the lake which took us to Emerald Bay, on the west shore of the lake. The only island in Lake Tahoe is located in Emerald Bay and is called Fannette Island. It is an upthrust of granite (aka ROCK) that rises up 150 feet above the water. It has not always been called Fannette Island. Among it's other names from the past are Coquette, Baranoff, Dead Man's Island, Hermit's and Emerald Isle.

Geologists say that Emerald Bay was gouged out by glaciers thousands of years ago. The Island supposedly is a resistant rib of granite ROCK that was overridden by the glacial ice.

Vikingsholm was the summer home built on the shore of Emerald Bay, west of Fannette Island. Mrs. Lora Josephine Knight bought the property and the island in 1928 for $250,000. Before construction started Mrs. Knight and her architect went over to Scandinavia for ideas. Construction had to stop at the first snowfall in the winter of 1928 and started up again in the spring of 1929. Two hundred workers were brought in to hand hew the timbers, carve intricate designs, hand plane wood for the interior walls and forge hinges and latches. The granite (aka ROCK) for the foundation and walls was quarried from behind the house.

The ROCK structure on top of the Island that looks like a miniature castle is the "Tea House" which was built sometime between 1928 and 1929 while the main home, Vikingsholm, was being constructed. The owner, Mrs. Knight, would take guests over to the Island by motorboat. There was a small fireplace in the corner and a large oak table and four oak chairs sat in the center of the 16 by 16 foot room. Over the years the Tea House had been vandalized and now only the stone shell remains. The island is closed from February 1st to June 15th. If we go back to Emerald Bay I would love to go up to see the Tea House and take a tour of Vikingsholm!I got my information from California State Parks website:

PhotoHunt Theme: Creamy

"CREAMY" is the theme this week.
~~~~~
I immediately thought of food for the CREAMY theme this week. So I found four pictures of CREAMY food that I have enjoyed over the past few years!

Sher's Hummus is a wonderfully CREAMY appetizer. She was a very interesting and funny food blogger who suddenly passed away last July 20th of a heart attack. I have made quite a few of her recipes from her blog called "What DId You Eat?"
For my main meal I would have the Crab Chili Rellano from the Speedboat Bar in Lake Tahoe. It was Dungeness Crab in a Diablo Sauce with Avocado, Salsa and Lime Sour CREAM. It was deliciously CREAMY with all the sauce and sour CREAM!
This Coconut CREAM Pie was made for my DH's birthday.
It was very CREAMY, indeed!
And finally, how about some Bailey's Irish CREAM
and some very CREAMY Cannoli
