PhotoHunt Theme: Pointed

The theme this week is "pointed"
and I was reading about pointed arches which are somewhat gothic. I looked to see if I had anything like that, and I'm not sure what type of architecture I found, but these are lovely buildings with lots of pointed areas. One of the definitions of "pointed" is as follows: Noun 1. pointed arch - an arch with a pointed apex; characteristic of Gothic architecture. I don't know if my architecture is what they are talking about but I like it and think it might work for the theme of "pointed" this week.

Last month we went to Art&Air, which was a one-of-kind fine arts fair. It was held on the grounds of Eden Theological Seminary. There were over 90 juried artists that participated. Unfortunately, it was extremely hot and humid that weekend, however the park-like setting was wonderful. I would have liked to have stayed and taken more pictures of the buildings
but it was way too hot.

Eden Theological Seminary was established in 1850 in Marthasville, Missouri. According to their history, it was established because a European education was not adequate to prepare pastors for Evangelical churches on the North American frontier. In 1883, the Seminary moved to Wellston, Missouri and then in 1924 they moved to their present location in Webster Groves. I think that the buildings are absolutely beautiful - with lots of pointed areas!

which even has pointed water fountains in front of it! This is the Holy Redeemer Catholic Parish,
across the street from Eden Theological Seminary,
which also has their steeple pointed upwards.

Cat Art and A Bunny

Last Sunday we went to an Art Fair that we attend every Mother's Day at Laumeier Sculpture Park. I couldn't take pictures of any of the art in the boothes, but this huge cat was near the center of the park. It is called "Ricardo Cat" (1999) and the artist was Niki de Saint Phalle (1930-2002). She died at the age of 71 after designing two sculpture gardens - one in Tuscany and one in California. Laumeier Sculpture Park had commissioned her to create a large scale sculpture for the Children's Garden here. After it was restored in California it returned to our park this Spring. The Missouri Botanical Garden is having an exhibition called "Niki" which is a collection of 39 pieces of her work now through October 31st. I haven't been there yet but I am looking forward to seeing it this Summmer.

after we got home from the Park.
Yes, they found another bunny! I think it's funny how the bunnies never seem to notice
that they are being watched very closely by two cats!

Oyster Festival!

We went to a Stout & Oyster Festival yesterday with our daughter and son-in-law. There were 25,000 oysters shipped in from both the east coast and the west coast, along with professional shuckers! They have the Festival at a local microbrewery every year. It's a lot of fun!

I will have more pictures later but I made up this picture after enjoying oysters on the half shell, fried oysters, oysters rockefeller and the best oyster shooters!

3rd Annual BBQ Contest

Smoke & Fire is where we got our "Big Green Egg"
and they recently hosted their 3rd annual BBQ Contest.

They started out with only a few competitors the first year and it was held in their parking lot. The second year the parking lot was overflowing with competitors. The smell of BBQ filled the whole area, which is a good smell, indeed!

So, for the third annual contest, they got out of the parking lot and held the contest in a nearby park. For the 2-day event, there were 80 participants from all over the country. It was estimated that there were approximately 7,000 visitors attending!

Oyster Festival!

We went to an Oyster Festival over the weekend.
They brought in both east coast and west coast oysters,
along with champion shuckers! The weather was nice enough to eat outside.
We were out on the balcony overlooking the patio.
I think it was the Connecticut Blue Points that we liked the best.
I'll have to check on that though!

This was from the inside where all the shucking was going on. They had about 15 different types and we tried most of them!And this was the patio where they were grilling oysters!
We are already looking forward
to next year's Oyster Festival at The Tap Room.

Harvest Festival

Last Sunday we went to the Harvest Festival.
